What is cured-in-place pipe lining?

Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining is a trenchless repair method in which a resin-soaked fabric liner is inverted or pulled into a damaged pipe and hardened using heat or UV light to create a new, structural pipe inside the old one.

CIPP lining is a trenchless method for repairing underground pipes without excavation. A tube of nonwoven polyester or fiberglass fabric is saturated with epoxy or polyurethane resin, then inserted into the damaged pipe. The liner is either inverted hydraulically or pulled through using air or water pressure. Once in place, it is hardened using hot water, steam, air circulation, or ultraviolet light, depending on the resin type. This creates a seamless, structural new pipe bonded inside the existing one.

The process works well on cracks, breaks, root intrusion, and corrosion in pipes ranging from 2 to 54 inches in diameter. It avoids the cost and disruption of digging up streets, yards, and landscaping. The cured liner typically lasts 25 to 50 years, though longevity depends on the resin system, original pipe condition, and what flows through it.
